Frequently Asked Questions

Why can’t I get my top song in my weekly highlight?

Unfortunately, Spotify doesn’t make your weekly listening data available so we are only able to get your top song for the last 30 days. If you are not signed into Spotify when the monthy highlight is generated, you will have a week to get your most listened to song for that month.

What kind of data do you store about me?

We never store your notes, images, ratings, or any other information you give Highlight access anywhere except your phone or your iCloud account. This means no one can see it other than you. We do collect some basic generic anonymous usage data about how many people are using the app and what kinds of features they are using to make sure the app is working as intended, but it can’t be linked back to any individual user.

How are the images generated?

We use Google’s Imagen3 model to generate the images using your notes. To do this we temporarily pass those notes to the model so it can generate an accurate image. This data is not linked to any individual user, is not stored for longer than it needs to be, and cannot be used for any model training.

Why is there a subscription?

It costs us money to maintain and provide the features in Highlight. Instead of relying on selling user data like many other apps, we are relying on a subscription model for premium features to keep the app functioning without needing to violate our user's trust. Most of the money goes towards paying for fees associated with having an app on the Apple App Store, and paying for the computation needed to generate the highlights, and provide the premium features.

What does it mean to regenerate an image?

If for some reason you don’t like the image that was generated for a highlight, or think it doesn’t represent that time period, you can try generating another image. If you want, you also have the option of changing the color scheme, or overall style of the image. Currently there is a max of 5 regenerations a month but this will likely be increased in future updates.

Some of my images for a day/month weren’t shown. Why not?

We limit the number of photos shown for a given day/month to 100 to help limit latency. We hope 100 images is enough to help you remember what happened during that time. We will fix this in future updates.

Something is wrong with the app what do I do?
